Samsung has created a 2.5-inch SSD with a record capacity of 30.72 TB


Samsung has produced a solid-state drive, the PM1643, with a capacity of 30.72 TB. This is a record for a device made in a 2.5-inch form factor.

The Samsung PM1643 solid-state drive contains 32 chipsets of NAND flash memory with a capacity of 1 TB each. Each such set includes 16 layers of V-NAND chips with a capacity of 512 Gbit. The total capacity of the novelty is almost 2 times higher than the previous record holder (16 TB), which Samsung introduced in March 2016. The device is intended for use in the corporate sector. It is equipped with a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) connection interface with a data rate of 12 Gb / s. The drive provides a reading speed of up to 2100 MB / s and a write speed of up to 1,700 MB / s. The presented model is provided with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.

Samsung does not specify yet when the PM1643 drive with a capacity of 30.72 TB will go on sale and what will be its cost. However, it is noted that this is a ready-to-use commercial product. It is also reported that in the framework of this line will be released and the model capacity of 16.36 TB, 7.68 TB, 3.84 TB, 1.92 TB, 960 GB and 800 GB.
